North Wales pupils to be taught in portable classrooms
September 5th, 2011Many pupils in North Wales will enter the upcoming academic year working out of temporary classrooms, according to local newspaper reports. The local authorities had been aiming to reduce the number of mobile classrooms, but it appears little progress has been made recently. Over 3,000 pupils will be taught out of 150 portable classrooms across North Wales, according to local authorities. Denbighshire has the most number of cabins, teaching 1,400 pupils out of 52 buildings, the same number that it was using in the last academic year.
Modular building specialist Britspace enters administration
September 4th, 2011Britspace a Yorkshire based construction company is reported to have gone into administration, threatening upto 200 jobs in the local area. Commenting on the company’s financial predicament the administrators said that there was “…significant cash flow difficulties.” The company has been in existence since the early 1970′s and specialises in modular buildings and bathroom pods.

University of Cumbria plans six new temporary classrooms
August 21st, 2011Six temporary classrooms look likely be the latest additions to the University of Cumbria’s Brampton Road campus in Carlisle. The University has decided it needs the extra space, partly due to a surge in demand for it’s performing arts classes. The University says that it needs…”..six additional 690sq-ft classrooms.” The reason why the institution has decided to opt for portable buildings is that it needs the teaching space in place by the time the new academic year starts in September. The site is also on the line of Hadrian’s Wall, which would further delay any permanent construction work as architects would have to examine the site before work could commence.
