Portable Buildings

‘Portable buildings’ is a generic term that covers a wide range of temporary and modular structures. These can include cabins, offices, classrooms and modular buildings. Portable buildings are a popular solution for those who require flexible and low cost working space, but who do not wish to commit to renting or buying space in a bricks and mortar building.

Portable buildings have a number of uses such as at events or more notably next to construction sites. The conventional idea of a portable building is of a rather primitive rectangular cabin with a window. That may have been true in the past, but nowadays there is a plethora of different types of portable buildings. For example many high spec modular buildings are used by companies as marketing suites, with all the amenities you would associate with a physical building.

Portable offices and temporary classrooms are two other principal examples of portable buildings. Again, these can be created to an extremely high standard, as power, electricity, water and air conditioning are just some of the extras that can be fitted to a building such as this. In fact some ‘portable’ buildings can be used in the long term as they can be renovated every few years, just like a conventional building. Not everyone needs them in the short term, in fact many businesses such as car dealers will use them longer term. They can be purchased or hired, depending on what you require the building for.

There are a whole range of reasons why a company, individual or educational institute may require a portable building. Expansion is the obvious example, but other reasons include downsizing, renovations as well as waiting for planning permission. Sometimes a company will want to establish a working environment quickly, so may use portable buildings while their main premises are being built. Also, if a building has been damaged due to fire, wind or flooding then a temporary building may be needed while the repair work takes place.

As a commercial property tenancy is usually between five and ten years, many businesses simply to not want to take the risk of committing for this long a period as so a portable building can be the perfect solution.
